Checkers is a game for 2 players. The players sit on opposite sides of the checkerboard, and position their 12 pieces on the 12 closest dark squares. One player has 12 pieces of one color, the other player has pieces of another color.

The player with the darker pieces moves first. Play then alternates between the 2 players. A piece can move diagonally one square toward the opposite side of the board only. If the opponent’s piece is blocking, and the diagonal square beyond is free, a piece is allowed to jump over the opponent’s piece to the 2nd diagonal square and remove the opponent’s piece from the board. From the landing square of the jump, if an additional jump is possible, the player may continue with a 2nd jump.

If a player is able to jump and capture an opponent’s piece, the rules require that the jump be made. However, in Settings in this app, this rule can be turned off.

When a player’s piece arrives on the furthest forward row of squares (the opponent’s side of the board), the piece gets crowned and can then move or jump in any direction diagonally.

The game ends when one player has lost all his pieces or is unable to move.

Pros and cons of Checkers app for iPhone and iPad

Checkers app good for

This is a great Checkers app. The best of all the free ones I could find.
I like playing against the iPad. Its good that you can go first or you can have the computer move first. Also being able to turn forced jumping on and off is good. I have a minor complaint about the graphics. When I play the dark pieces, the shadows are at the top of the screen instead of the bottom. One other suggestion: I wish the computer was a bit smarter, or perhaps had levels of intelligence.
Dope, ugo to settins and change it and ur not forced to jump opponent. Games kinda easy tho
i loved this game because it was just soooooooo much cuz like nobody would really hate this game because its Checkers!! but the only bad thing is sometimes they force u to go somewhere that u dont want to go but either then that its a really fun game but i wouldnr reccomend it i would reccomend another Checkers at the app store called Checkers obviously and u should really check that out!
This Checkers is awesome, it is most definitely possible to beat the computer, even with forced jump. However, you can adjust the settings and take forced jump off. For those who dont think so it is even possible to beat the computer when it is set to best, as I have several times.
Love this app! But, wouldnt you know - never satisfied! My suggestion for improvement regards first move in human-machine game series. Can/would it be possible to permit loser of previous game to go first (or even alternate first moves) in human-machine series. Although I dont readily find the international rule here, our kid games always played loser moves first in next game. So again, great App. Thanks.

Some bad moments

Dont Waste your time with this game, the hard Difficulty is far to easy to beat. Ive played harder games then this in grade 1.
On settings it gives us a choice to have to jump players and not to and I ALWAYS try to change it and it never works
I hated this version of Checkers because they force you to lose. When its your turn if there is a way to jump someone then they force you to. This might sound good but the only times that I could jump there was a piece waiting to jump me back so by the end of the game I had one piece left. It was a king so I could move any way but there was a piece in front of me so the only move that was available was to jump him. So I jumped him then after I did I got jumped and lost the game. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE EVERY TIME!!!
Ok, this game has nice graphics and a great interface and the controls are rather easy. For me however it is WAY too easy to beat. I played it on the highest difficulty level("iOS best") and I beat it four times in a row with ease and got bored. For other Checkers players who dont find the computer easy to beat but who dont like being forced to take a piece if they have a piece to take then then you can just switch it off in the settings. Just switch the "players must capture" button from on(which is default when you get the app) to off. There, problem solved! :) Overall well made but too easy
Nice graphics And stable but the game engine is too easy to beat even on hardest (iOS best settings) and the program does not remember the difficulty or board type (wood, glass etc) between restarting the program. The board is always oriented to you from the white player side so there is no way to let the computer play first and play the board from the black player side - so you have to play "upside down" if you want the device to move first.
Highly buggy program that makes absurd moves. Impossible to lose to this one. The author needs to review alpha-beta pruning and game trees.
